9 Myths

Before you start writing, it is important to understand the myths about writing and writers. The following list contains the most common myths, each with a verdict that leads you to more information.

1. To write publishable work, an author needs to be a genius. Busted.

2. The best authors are those who remain in seclusion waiting for a muse to drop ideas into their heads or they are god-like receptors for divine gifts of words. Busted.

3. If a work isn't good the first time you write it down, then it will never be good. Revision is only for themes. Busted.

4. To write, you have to first have a good idea. Busted.

5. To write a story, you have to first have a complete outline. Busted.

6. It is called fiction, because you can make up anything you'd like. Busted.

7. The best poetry doesn't make sense. Busted.

8. A good story has a lot of action. Busted.
